Who has capes? Pics please!!!

Janel Feb 27, 2005 10:44 AM

I would love to see some pics of capes and know what people's experiences have been with keeping them.
Here's mine in some bright sunshine (but expecting 2 new ones in the mail Tuesday!) I recently learned to keep mine cooler and he is doing much better now. I wish the breeder had told me more when I bought him so I could have taken better care of him from the beginning.

Here are two of mine. They are both females and have grown up a lot since these pics and gotten much prettier. Keeping them cool is an absolute must. I also feed just a little less than my other pits., but other than that they do great!

Those are killer! Whose stock did they come from? Very nice pics as usual too Tom Stevens

mturner01 Feb 28, 2005 03:58 PM

Thanks Tom, the older female on the grey substrate and male (not pictured) are from Gregg Feaster, but I can't remember who he got them from. The younger pair came from Jonel Lopez. They are both descendants of Jim Kane's "Neon" stock.

Gregg,
I'm sure glad you did sale them! I also found another pair of "Neon" a year younger than the one's I got from you (female on Sani-Chips). I really need to take pics of the Cape's you sent over. Both are over 3.5 feet and pounding weaned rats and look just stunning! How are those albino bairdi doing?

Capes are quite sensitive animals that do better in cooler temps, eating smaller meals, and are very shy as well.

Here is a pic of my orange cape that unfortunately passed away very recently.

HI Billy
Sorry to hear about you losing one of your Capes. I just lost one of mine 3 days ago . She had some type of sickness and she just could not shake it .

My Northern pines are from Ginter Stock .

I will give a call some time soon .

Take care .

Jason

Hello Janel,
Good looking Cape, glad to hear the cooler temps are working out better for you. My Capes also like cooler temps. No new pics to post right now since i'm not home, but hopefully I can squeeze in a minute to post some later tonight or this week.

Have a good one, and congrats on a great cape!

I'm partial to this one. He is between 5 1/2 and six feet. Sweet as can be.

I have seen you post that pic several times. I have wondered where you got that nice, big one? Have you had it since it was small? What temps do you keep yours at?
Thanks,
Janel

He came from a breeder/dealer at one of the Kansas City shows. The original buyer didn't like him and traded/or sold him to a local pet store. He was two plus when I got him. This summer he should be about a 4 year old. The only negative thing I've found is he is a fussy eater and geting him switched to something f/t. Most of the time now he will take a f/t small rat right off the tongs like my sonoran gopher. Sometimes, all he needs is ten or 15 minutes of quiet and he will go right to eating. All of my snakes have the habit of not eating when they are going into a shed cycle. That's OK because I have a red tegu mouse/rat disposal.

I'd like to find him a girlfriend. A young one, maybe three or 4 years old and close in coloration. I've had lots of complements on his picture. My son took it with his digital camera. The colors really popped out. It was also less than a week after he had shed.

I hope this helps. Feel free to write me off line if you have questions.

Mike B
