Gone for a week-How long can beardie be alone???

EYELOVEMYLIZARD Feb 27, 2005 12:01 PM

Hi, Im going to be gone for one week this month. Can my beardie be Alone for atleast 7 days, I will be coming home once to feed and if needed clean up her cage. she is more than a year old, and i usually have someone take care of her when im on vacation.. Since we've moved last summer its harder to find some one to take care of her.

Wondering if she can be fine w/o food for 3-4 days, as I'll be coming home once.

Thank Yaz!

She will survive, reptiles can go a long time without food. I would say just put your lights on a timer and feed her well before you go.

A lot of vets offer a boarding service or can tell you a name of someone who does.

Having your lights on a timer ensures proper day/night cycle. Keeping the lights on all the time can really freak out your dragon. Same if you keep the lights off (most likely in the latter case, the dragon would go into brumation).

Adult dragons can go 3-4 days without food, though it would be an ideal to leave a small dish of water (too small for the dragon to get into but large and sturdy enough so it can't be tipped over). Also, getting a dozen or so silkworms certainly will leave her somethign to snack on. J ust leave some silkworm chow in the coolest section of the cage, with the silkworms. They don't tend to wonder far and even if they do, the worse that could happen is it coccons somewhere and you have a moth in the cage (assuming the dragon doesn't eat it first). Pellets can also be left out, especially with a large feast of greens on the day you go.
