first gecko temp problems

bloodroses19 Feb 27, 2005 12:23 PM

i just got my first leo female looks like a high yellow.
anyway shes in a 20 gallon with a small undertank heater. i put a thermometer on the ground over the heater so i could keep track of how hot it got. at one point it read 100. but normally it reads 90-95. but the air temp is 75 just a few inches over the ground. the cool end is 68. the heater and tank came with the gecko. along with some lights. i have not put the lights up because it would be way to hot. should i turn off the heater and try to reach proper temps with lights? but then what would i do at night? also i read about getting a thermostat for the under tank heaters would that work? thanks for any help. -brandy

I suggest you put something inbetween the UTH and your tank so the heat isn't as hot. Either that or put the UTH on the side of the tank(against a wall).
