may be a stupid question...

liz_emt Jul 08, 2003 12:20 AM

but then again the only stupid questions are those that go unasked (is that even a word?)
anyway...... I picked up my uro the other day... and she peed all over me... is this normal?... and lately.. she has decided to pee/poop in her empty food dish. She'll eat everything off of her paper plate.. then use it as a "litter box" I never noticed that she peed before this... the poop is fine.. normal not runny..the dark is dark and the white is white... with the exception of when i give her dandelions...

also... how can I lower the hunidity in her tank? shes in a 40 gallon breeders tank (36 long 18 wide) and i cant get the humidity to drop below like 40/50.... i do not provide water ( no misting or free standing) so why cant i get the humidity to drop?..... is it just the weather here? ever when its not humid out side... it doesnt drop in the tank...

thanks
liz

What is the humidity where you live?
What kind of substrate do you have?
How hot is your enclosure.
Does your terrarium have a covered top?

All these will affect the humidty. As far as the waste issue is concerned....Mine seem to all have different locations for defecating. Some go right where they eat, some do not. It is a frustrating dillema. I would say this on the liquid waste of your animal. These guys in captivity probably get a whole lot more moisture in their food than in the wild. Wether that is bad or good I do not know.

Even a well-adjusted uro can sometimes act strangely. My mali Ra has only peed on me once even through I've held him many times. I think they might have mood swings like we do and he didn't want to be bothered that day. Malis seem to be the moodiest of all the uros. He has also defacated in odd places around his enclosure including his basking rock and climbing log. He has now settled on a corner of the tank furthest from his "living room" area. Your uro may be trying to decide on a favourite place to do his business. Also, don't worry about your uro peeing on you. It happens to most of us at one point.
