Leo changed colors?

chubbyfrogmom Feb 27, 2005 07:12 PM

This is my firdt leo so this might be normal...but he just had his first shed and he's gone from a pale pinkish and gray color to yellow with gray. Do they always change colors? What morph is he? I thought he was just a normal color when I got him.

yea that's normal for a leo to change colors after each shed when they are younger...they are born with bland yellow striping over a dark pigminted skin usually (unless bred to be a certain morph or an albino or whatnot)...after a few shed's they'll start loosing there juvenile skin pigments and you'll eventually see what morph they will grow to be...in young leo's it's hard to tell what morph they are...usually around 6-7 months you can be pretty confidant in what morph they are...expect a few more color alterations while he/she's growing up...nice leo btw ;]

i'm still not familiar with morphing quite yet...so i'm not even going to mislead you with a guess...good luck with him/her ;D

Also if they've been starved or mistreated they tend to lose color too as I found out when I got my female. She'd been starved and wasn't paid attention to when she shed because she's missing most of her front toes. When I got her I thought she was a snow but now that she's shed about five times I'm finding out that she's a pastel and she's getting a new orange stripe in her tail each time she sheds.

He may not have been well taken care of. I got him at pet store and he was really skinny (not anymore!). When I got him he ate like he was starving. Thanks for the help. I'm glad to know it's not a bad sign.
