Heat Tape

I can't seem to find "heat tape", if that is what it's called. I've heard many breeders speak of using this stuff with a thermostat to heat many "cages" (plastic tubs) simultaneously. I looked and asked around at Wal-Mart, PetCo, PetSmart, Home Depot, and Lowe's and no one seems to know what I'm talking about, and the only thermostats I seem to find are for AC's.

Is there a specific brand name for the thermostats and "heat tape" you guys use? Or better yet a place to get it? I'm in North Houston, TX if that helps any.

Thanx in advance,
Joseph

The material you want is Flex-watt heat tape, available in 3, 4, and 11-inch wide strips. Among a number of places that will carry this product, try the Bean Farm (www.beanfarm.com)--they have all sizes as well as other stuff you'll need to install it. They also carry several kinds of thermostats--remember that you get what you pay for, so if your animals are valuable and/or important, you might consider getting a proportional thermostat (such as a Helix), which will cost more but is less likely to fail. There are plenty of other places besides Bean Farm that carries all this stuff, but that's a good place to start.

Good luck!

The heat tape is called Flex Watt. The thermostats are for industrial use. So, you will not find them at the lumber yards or home centers. You can find both on the classifieds section of this web site. I would recommend MG Reptiles for both items. Here is there link.
