My Awesome Male Kimberly Rock Monitor

CVReptiles Feb 27, 2005 08:35 PM

Hi everyone,

This is my awesome male Kimmie. He just ate 3 fuzzies today and is the largest kimmie I have ever seen so far. What do you think of him ? : )

Great looking monitor...

Please don't take it the wrong way but he looks grossly overweight. V. glauerti in the wild are gracile, athletic creatures. Obesity seems to be a massive problem with captive monitors in general, due largely to their propensity to be food hoggs, happily consuming virtually all put before them. Very much a 'super-size me' problem. As with the massive amount of fat kids popping up all over the place, this no doubt has serious health implications.

Cheers

Bryan,
He looked overweight in 2 of those pics because, he had just finished eating fuzzies........Look at this pic.

I still think it looks overweight in that pic too.....you might want to look at other kimberly rocks they are a bit thinner...

I agree. They are naturally much much thinner than that in the wild here in Australia.

From the pictures i have seen of wild and captives they are much skinnier than the one pictured. Theyre in youre area Bryan?

I am looking forward to working with smaller monitors, but in the mean time i have large ones. lol

They are reasonably common in one of our field sites in the Kimberly. One of the coolest goannas ever.

Those other pics were taken after eating fuzzies. This pic was taken on a normal day. Still think he looks overweight ?

the only KR's that i have seen that round are gravid females, but hey man it may be the angle of the pic,but just be careful obesity leads to probs.
