Boa with R.I. Problem

casey31179 Feb 27, 2005 09:43 PM

I have only one reptile vet in my area and I have hear some horror stories but hm so I don't trust him I and looking for advice.
I have just aquired a 6' male red tail (sold to me as a regular but don't think he is) When I purchased him he was weezing, blowing bubbles, had a lump in his throat, and when I opened his mouth it was full of mucus and even some off white chunks. It Was Gross!
I called the vet right away but he only sees reptiles on thurdays and I couldn't get him an appointment for 6 weeks.
I put him in a tank and heated it up to about 95 degrees and kept a large pan of water. I gave him a week and tried to feed him. He tried to eat but couldn't seem to the pass the food by the lump in his neck. By week 2 he ate no problems.
It has now been 3 weeks all signs of the R.I. are gone. No lump, No mucus, nothing. He is very perky and has an absolutly wonderful temperment.
Ok now here is my questions: How long should I keep him at the high temps? He vet appointment isn't for 3 more weeks should I still take him? Is it possible the R.I. cleared up completely without antibiotics? I look forward to your responses this is all new to me.
