'04 Hogg with minor "bump/abscess" on rostrals (more)

SnakeBiteJunkies Feb 27, 2005 10:30 PM

I began noticing that my '04 Hogg was developing a small bump/abscess on the rostrals, presumably from rubbing about 3 weeks ago. It's not an open wound (yet) but just a small bump that appears to be getting slightly bigger. I pushed on it and it appeared to be filled with liquid, as it moved accordingly. Is there anything I can (e.g., lancing) do besides taking it to the vet? Any and all recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

SSSammy

I absolutely have to. I have too many animals to take to the vet for every little bump or scratch. I try to save the vet trips for serious problems only. I thought someone out there (like you) would have some tips for either treating it or advice for just leaving it alone at this stage.

One of my favorite boas had a major contusion on his snout from
continually trying to open the cage sliding door. He managed to
completely open up a 'U' shaped abrasion right behind his
nostrils. This was right before I put him in to breed with my
female back in November.

He's shed twice since & it is almost completely unnoticable now.
There is just a small retained shed on the tip of his snout
right now. He's still pretty hyper, but he ate last week and has
settled down a little since...You might want to put some
neosporin on it, but it should heal unless the cage is very
dirty.
