friendly geckos?

Tourniqet Feb 28, 2005 01:00 AM

I am new to gecko's completely. I would like to know if there are any "friendly" gecko spiecies.

If so How friendly?

I realize these are reptiles, and usually prefer to be left alone, but I just wanted to know how they stack up the rest of the reptiles in the "handle-ability".

Well, I only have first hand experience with Tokay Geckos, which I would definitely NOT recommend to someone who wants a friendly gecko, but I know that Leopard Geckos are extremely popular pets, and Crested Geckos are supposed to be almost as friendly.

I have 1.2 leos and 1.1 crested geckos. Both are awesome but I'd go with cresteds. They are a unique species that are very hardy and gentle. Ive been bitten by my leos before yet never by my cresteds. The cresteds have a little more requirements than the leos but are as friendly as a gecko can be. With complete care they should be great.

I got an African Fat Tail gecko a few weeks ago. I got him for my 5 year old Son. The AFT is VERY docile. Both my Son and 3 year old Daughter hold him.

I would definately go with a rhacodactylus gecko. I have a crested and a gargoyle and i preffer them to leos and fattails. The thing I like about these are that in most cases, they don't need heating/lighting as leos do. And i don't know if this is true in most cases, but my gargoyle gecko is much friendlier than my crested and prefferes Gargoyle gecko diet to crickets. That is another good thing about these.....they don't NEED crickets, but it is still good to throw some in there sometimes.

I really like the way crested and gargoyles look. Are they both Rhoachtus or whatever the name is? Do they require a lot of room and are they climbers?

I have a male and female leopard gecko and they are amazingly freindly, the female is even more freindly and i let her wlak around on my desk while i am on the computer. she is tolerant to anything and has never even attempted to bite me, just get a leo from a breeder not a pet store becasue breeders sometimes hold the lizards and get them socail prior to giving them to u
