baby gecko that won't eat

xgeckogirl85x Feb 28, 2005 01:23 AM

I have this baby that won't eat... he was in with 3 other babies his size, and the others started getting bigger than him so I separated him from the rest of them. I put in some pin head crickets but he wasn't interested in them. I got him to eat a wax worm, but I had to cut its head off and rub it against his face and he finally took it, but that was a little over a week ago and I've been trying to give him more food, but he still seems too weak to do anything... he has gotten stronger though, before he would stumble when walking now he walks more steadily.

please help!

Jess

My suggestion is to first take him to the vet to see if there's anything wrong with him besides the fact that he's not eating and if there's nothing wrong with him see if the vet will show you how to syringe feed him if you don't know how. I know this sounds completely discusting and I'm sure it is but you might need to blend up some crickets or meal worms and force feed him at least until he starts to eat on his own. I've never had to do this with reptiles but I have had to hand feed birds and it shouldn't be to difficult. Good luck and I hope he starts eating on his own.

make sure your baby's substrate temps are what they should be. If it is too cold they can not digest food properly.

Well, if Marci with Golden Gate Geckos is still around, you might ask her for her Miracle Recipe. She has a wonderful recipe to feed to leos who won't eat.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I have some stuff called "appetite plue " that im tring. (i don't know if i mentioned that in my first post) today he i bought him a bigger enclosure, still small but big enough for him and a newer better hide out. he seemed happier in there because he was moving around a lot more and exploring and his eyes were wide open and not closed like that always are. if he doesn't improve within the next 2-3 days im going to take him in to the vet. i have still be tring to feed him crickets, even put in a couple to see if he would chase them. i'll tell you how he does.
