Heating problem...HELP PLEASE!

S1NPLYS1K Feb 28, 2005 07:03 AM

Ok...so here's my issue...i had all my lizards (save the anoles) upstairs in what i liked to call my 'lizard room'...and the temps were pretty much accurate with no extra heating needed...my beardie was around 94-100 most times...and my leo's were roughly 74-80...i had to move them downstairs to the livingroom recently to allow changes to that room to be done...

now taht i've moved them...both cages are a great bit colder...with a 50 watt bulb heating pad on my beardie's cage...it only stays @ a constant 87...while my leo cage is below 70...i have a zoo-med red night light for the leo's...but there isn't even a temp reading it's so cold in there...my lizards are FREEZING!!!

any ideas on how i can get my beardie's back up to the required 95-110 and the leo's back up the required 74-80ish?

Thanks!!

you need to get a higher watt bulb for your beardie, probably a 75 or 100 watt,as for the leo you need an under tank heater. You didn't say what wattage of red bulb you are using on your leo, whenits cold like this I use a regular 40-60 watt bulb for the day and 25-40 watt red for night. You also might try covering part of the lids and wraping the sides of the tank with a towel to help hold the heat in,just don't get the towel to close to the lamp.

Correction: leos need 88-90. Any how back to the question, get a 10 gallon UTH, that will keep it at a constant 88 for now, since its brand new and your set-up is only temporary i dont think you would really need a thermostat if you monitor the temps.

I bought a 100 watt for the beardie today...temps are back up ;D

as far as the leo's...it's temporary for the next few months as i expand and buy setups for all my males...but anyway...it's a 60 watt night light i run 24 hours a day...they seem to be find with it...i'll throw the towel over the cage and let you know how that works...thanks!!!!
