Heating System of New Vision Rack System...

chris_harper2 Feb 28, 2005 10:09 AM

I was just on Vision's website to get a dimension for one of their cages and saw the link to their new rack system.

A friend of mine was at Daytona last summer and videotaped/took several pictures of the prototype for me. My friend said it was pretty darn nice. I have seen the video and the pictures and have to agree.

Just curious if anyone else has seen the final production model? I've checked some of the other non-KS forums and the few who have them seem to really like them.

At any rate, the reason why I'm posting is because of how the new rack systems are heated. This ability to coil as little or as much heat rope as you want is something I've been suggesting for a while now.

I think this is pretty darn slick:

Does anyone know what the area you loop the cable through is made of?

Here's the main rack page:

I have to admit, if there was a model for the CB-80 box I use I'd probably go ahead and get one, even as much as I enjoy building my own racks. A light, aluminum rack for my quarantine needs would be perfect. Alas, I have no need for a CB-70 rack.

Oh well, maybe later. Sorry if this post is against the TOS.

I don't have these- but just checked out the heating system and that does look awesome. Very flexible heating options.

After posting I had to e-mail Vision and ask. The plate that the heat cable routes through is 3/4" expanded PVC. That should work very well.

As everyone knows I always suggest expanded PVC as a great way of increasing thermal mass below or behind rack system tubs. The 3/4" stuff should do this very well.

I'm sure there are those that will avoid this rack because they think a closed rack will heat better, but I'm guessing this rack will heat fine with that 3/4" PVC plate.
