Getting worried about my female can someone help me PLZ!!!

Gilbery007 Feb 28, 2005 01:14 PM

Hi all, I thought that my female was gravid but now im not too sure as i can't see any eggs developing in her tummy! She was put with my male about 4 weeks ago now and at the start of this week she has started eating very little, but she has eaten a few mealworms. What could be up with her??? She normally eats like a pig. PLZ any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.Thankyou Gilbery007

She has been digging around in her lay box and has not eaten. This will also be her first time laying. PLZ someone reply and give me some help.Thankyou Gilbery007

I wouldn't take it to the vet just yet. Everything you're decribing goes hand in hand with laying eggs IMO. Just keep watching her, sometimes you can't see teh eggs in her belly so she might be gravid but you can't tell. I would wait a few more days and if she continues to act weird and you never see any eggs then you might want to schedule a vet ap.

Thankyou Katie, So do u think it sounds as though she is Gravid. IMO i think she is, it's just that because i cannot see any eggs im a little concerned! Not eating is a bad sign when she normally eats like a pig LOL. Maybe if i tried some crix she might eat. All the signs are there she is digging and she has stopped eating a week before she is suppose to lay which is all correct??? If not PLZ correct me! Thankyou Gilbery007

My gravid females usualy stop eating for about a week before they lay their eggs. They start eating reg after they lay though. I think it sounds as though your female is gravid. You can try crickets if you want but if she's going to lay there's almost nothing you can do to get her to eat.

Hey there!
I would not worry about her just yet. My leo's first clutch was only one egg, and I could not tell she was gravid because she wasn't "showing." She also stopped eating 2-3 days before laying. However, a week is also normal. Just make sure you check the cage daily for eggs and try not to handle her too much. After she lays, give her a pink mouse with some calcium to help fatten her up. Also, if you have read any of my other posts, I am a firm believer in Ensure w/ Calcium, given in small doses to your leos in times of sickness and breeding.
Good Luck!

There is nothing to worry about. They stop eatting when they are getting ready to lay their. You should also find her digging in her humidity box. (You should have one, its very important. I have vermiculite in mine) What i found with one of my females is that she likes to lay her eggs when the tank is somewhat humide like in the 40% range. If she doesnt lay her eggs for another 2 weeks you should take her to a reptile vet to make sure shes not egg bound but if shes just stopped eatting and its been about 4 weeks sence she was introduced to a male then she should be fine and should lay her egg soon.

Good Luck

Jon
