Pied prices...

lbrat Feb 28, 2005 07:17 PM

Does anyone speculate that the price of pieds will go up after double homo. animals are produced?

Any combination morphs will command a higher price, but lots of people are breeding pieds and as the supply increases, the price for "regular" pieds should continue to drop. I'm raising some female lemon pastels hoping to get "Lemon Pieds", but that will be several years down the road and I'll be behind the curve as we should be seeing combination morphs with pieds this year.

Pied prices could level off as well....meaning...hitting a price and staying there for quite sometime.
Look at the Hypo, Albino, Pastel.......these morphs were on their way of "pet shop" affordability and then the designers with these morphs came out (and new ones continue every year) and the prices stopped dropping and there is more than enough supply out there. Sure, there will always be someone/s with "discounted" pricing......but for the most part.....most of the breeders are sticking with the market prices cause the public's want out ways the supply. Why kill the prices if you don't have to!!!??? I believe the same will happen with the Pied.

How could the price NOT drop significantly. Ralph Davis alone had enough pied babies in 2004 to cause the price to drop by 50% and he didn't even start the morph. Just a thought not trying to cause a stir. Pieds are awesome. I will try hets when they are at the current albino het price.

Murphinski Mar 01, 2005 05:05 PM

The price drop on the Pied hets WAS NOT caused by Ralph....but by someone who produced 10X more than that of Ralph.

But i don't see what other people see in piebalds...
personally it looks like someone was painting a snake and missed a spot.

maybe if i owned one, or saw one in person (i've only seen pics)

then again, i am a fan of super cinnamons, leucistics and ivories.

i am weird...

. . .until I saw a bunch of them in Daytona. Babies and adults. Wow. I really thought they looked like overpriced freaks. I tend not to like the lighter colors, as in albinos and pieds. I thought pieds looked disjointed and really not worth their price.

To each their own, of course, but I hope to someday have a nice 50/50 pied. They really are pleasing to look at imho, and with the right balance of color and white, wow! Maybe if you see a few in person, you'll change your mind? But of course, you don't have to. I still think albinos are pretty ugly.

Murphinski Feb 28, 2005 08:18 PM

But Pieds RULE!! What's not to like?? There's high whites..(a lucy with a spash of color/pattern)......there's 50/50s..(a ball with a half white/half patterned body or of approximation).......and there's low whites..(a morph all by itself practically). Then there's Pieds with very little pattern on the patterned areas....there's Pieds with a striped appearance on the patterned areas....there's Pieds with hellacious abbrencies on the patterned areas..........NO TWO PIEDS look alike!!

The ones you mention being your favs are nice in their own right.......but I'll take a ton of Pieds anyday over a single one of the others.......

YES!! I love Pieds......but again..to each their own. But you really need to see one in person............their MESMERIZING!

Personally I breed reptiles for my own enjoyment and I have bred several kinds of reptiles over the years. I bought a pair of het for Piebald because I think the Pieds are very cool looking. I doesn't really matter to me what the offspring sells for or if the prices go up or down, as long as I can enjoy having them.

Is there any other snake like it? Sure, theres albinos, sure theres leucictics, but is there another snake who's only partly white?

MarkS Mar 01, 2005 07:51 AM

Yes, Calicos. They've got the white sides.

I have a pair of hets. and a normal female.I'm just hoping to get a pied boy to keep for myself and to cover my original investment by parting with a few 50% and 66% pairs.
Going to be a while though, since they are all 04 animals and I want the girls to be nice and big before breeding.

FerrisBueler Mar 01, 2005 06:58 PM

I was talking about any other species of snake. Is there any other species of snake with a morph thats partly white? Calicos don't have a remarkableamount of white on them anyways, I believe.

MarkS Mar 02, 2005 02:43 AM

Well, the black ratsnakes and the bullsnakes both have morphs that have white sides with a narrow band of normal color down the back.

Isn't there a blood python like that too? What's the inheritance on those three?

MarkS Mar 04, 2005 05:19 PM

The Black Rat snake is recessive, I believe the bullsnake is too. I don't know about the blood python, hadn't heard about it before.

That's neat, I can't tell if that's the belly or the back...or the side, in fact. What is it?

TomChambers Mar 02, 2005 03:30 PM

One of those pied clelia?Well then what is it? It's very cool.

TomChambers Mar 02, 2005 04:30 PM

It's a Ringhals cobra.

It is a very unique cobra, in that it is the only one to birth live offspring. As well as being a spitting cobra; it will also play dead, and then do a surprise attack.

I didn't mean to imply this particular animal was the only to to have live offspring, I meant the Ringhals cobra is the only cobra to do so.

I read my post afterwards and it seemed a little unclear.

sorry
