laying behavior

GoldfishChick Feb 28, 2005 07:52 PM

i'm excited to say that i just witnessed my lovely leopard gecko named Provided lay an egg! i was interested to see her dig a hole in the vermiculite tub i provided for her, then lay her egg in that hole. she seemed to rest for about a half hour and then, after the heat lamp was turned off, began to burry her treasure. At present she is still burying. I'm so excited! I just thought i would share my observation with you all.

Thats great, I hope the eggs are fertile and that the babies are healthy. Hopefully next year I'll be sharing in the same joy that you're feeling now. I just have to get a normal female to go with my male since I just found out tonight that I have a giant female albino. I will state the reason I didn't know that she was a giant leopard gecko for those of you that will probably think that I didn't do the research before I got her. When I bought her no one knew that she was a giant because she was starved before she ended up at the pet store. Her former owners dumped her at the pet store after starving her. Everyone thought she was a normal leopard gecko but its taken awhile to figure out that she's a giant because of all the stress she's gone through in her life.

I have no idea what her age is because I bought her from a pet store. The pet store I get my crickets and supplies from takes in reptiles and other animals people don't want or are giving away. This a very good pet store its not a chain its a family owned business and I trust them unlike most pet stores. When I bought her for my full grown male she was the same size and we all assumed that she was a normal leopard gecko. After I fattened her up she was huge compared to him. Her head tail and body are all bigger than his. In my search to figure out what kind of female I wanted to get to go with my male instead of her, because he wants nothing to do with her and she picks on him, I came across pictures of giant albino leopard geckos and she looks exactly like one of the pictures I came across. Her size and weight lead me to believe that she's a giant. I don't have a scale but when I hold them both I can feel the weight difference.

Since, Giants are Co-domiant and you would breed it out and see if it is genetic. I highly think it wouldn't be giant and breeding only can tells.
