Is anyone here willing to build a cage...?

Usumbara Feb 28, 2005 08:11 PM

I'm wondering if anyone here (from the St. Louis area) is willing to build a cage for me. I have zero skills what so ever when it comes to wood working, and would greatly prefer just having someone else do the building for me.

I need something around 6 x 3 (Or bigger. Bigger is better in this case, but 6 x 3 is the minimum size).

No, but we can certainly help you come up with a "cut list" and some basic instructions on how to get what you want. You'll be able to find somebody to build it for you, I'm sure.

Give us some more specifics.

1) What species is the cage for?

2) Are you most worried about appearance, cost, weight, or what?

3) Since it's a large cage, do you anticipate it having to move with you or are you fairly set with a home, etc.?

It's for an Arg. Black and White Tegu. So, like I said, bigger is better.

At the moment, cost is the biggest concern. All I want is a cage that is functional with some sort of windows (Glass is prefered, but plexiglass will do) to look in.

Moving the cage isn't a big deal. I always planned on putting wheels on it, but they certainly aren't vital, I doubt I'd have to move it that often.

Okay, let me think about that.

Still, you're going to have to have some input into the final dimensions of the cage. At the very least you need to make sure it will fit into your home, down or up stairs, around corners, etc. and into the room where you will keep you cage.

I recommend cutting a large piece of cardboard into the same size as the footprint of your cage and then trying to slide that around your home and into it's final position.

If your case if you can have the length of the cage less than the height of a doorway you can turn the cage up on end and move it around. This will make things easier.

So let's say you're leaning towards a LxWxH of 6.5' x 3' x 2.5'. In that case you'll want to cut a piece of cardbard to 3'x2.5' and try to slide it around your home.

If you decide the cage absolutely needs to be 8' long then you'd need to cut your cardboard to 8'x2.5'. In that case you'd be turning the cage onto it's back to move it, assuming it's 8' x 3' x2.5'.
