re-freezing

pezpunk Feb 28, 2005 08:29 PM

is there anything wrong with re-freezing a prekill if your snake doesn't eat it, and feed it at a later time?

If it is prekilled like you say....then you wouldn't be refreezing, in which case there shouldn't be a problem.

Good luck,
Philip

A better answer to your question would be NO, there isn't a problem, I have many different kinds of snakes, from boas, pythons, cornsnakes, Rattlesnakes, and If your snake doesn't eat the prey right away, you can refreeze it, I wouldn't let it sit out for a long time, and I wouldn't refreeze to many times, but I have put mice back in the freezer cause my snake was not in the mood to feed at that time. Pinkies tend to decomp pretty fast, after being thawed for the second time. But yeah I have done it, but never more than once. Hope that helps.

yeah that helps alot, i never re-freeze more than once, it kills me to through out mice when they aren't eaten seems like a waste thanks

I'm also willing to re-freeze 1 time, but no more and only if it's clear right away that the snake will not eat it.

If you don't want to waste mice/rats, you need a garbage disposal snake or lizard like a monitor or cribo or something .

Ditto what Doug said,
Its best to have a cleanup guy handy for unwanted snack disposal.
Refreezing is cool IMO as well.

That's great, you both suggested a garbage eater before I could. Monitors are great, but so are red-eared sliders
