What types of wood are safe...

Buds Feb 28, 2005 08:36 PM

Hey.
I'm planning a new habitat for my California Kingsnake, and I was wondering what types of wood are safe to use in the build. I know they can be sensitive to certain things, and I'm not sure what to use. Also, I was planning on using some sort of plexiglas or acrylic material instead of glass. Is this safe? Thanks for your time.

You are going to need to seal your wood anyway so pine would work. Be sure to let the sealant dry before you introduce the animals. Put a PETA member in first to make sure no harmful vapors remain behind.

They are always saying to house the animals safely if you are going to house them at all. And there is also always some fruitcake PETA member putting him/herself in a cage to demo how animals are kept so why not kill two bids with one stone??? Or at least one PETA member if you are lucky. The problem is timeing the dry ing of the finish so that you don't ruin it while still haveing enough vapors to do the job!!! LOL

P.s. Gee I hope I don't offend the people who posted a couple weeks ago. Don't bother looking for the post cuz it got deleted.

Thanks for the replies... very funny. Just to make sure, is there any danger in using a plexiglass type material. I don't know if exposing it to the heat of the tank will cause any harmful vapors or something.
Thanks again.
