my anole died sudenly.... (nobody on anole forum)

kingsnake2 Feb 28, 2005 09:15 PM

I came home from a couple day trip and my anole was really thin and he had 2 crikets in the cage. By the next day those were gone and i bought him some more (sunday). This morning he was still thin after a couple crikets but was runing arround. That evening he still was acting healthy even thought he was thin but he had black patches around his eyes ( I thought nothing of them). I came back and checked on him in a hour and he was dead :*(. He also had more black patches on his body. Do you think that is why he died or what?

crickets could have attacked him?

I'm not a vet, so not sure what the heck your little fellow had wrong with him. But could the blackened areas been some sort of internal bleeding?

I saw a lizard that belonged to a friend, that had hookworms, and there were places on his body that turned blackish, it was actually blood under the skin.

Again, its a shame, sorry for your lose.

Black patches behind an Anole's eyes are a common sure sign
that an Anole is very sick and will very likely die. In all
liklihood the cause was environmental. It's very likely that
something in the Anole's environment was either inadequate or
not provided for.
Other signs of sickness in a domestic Green Anole are sunken
eyes, a very thin tail, a very visible ribcage, gasping for
breath and a failure to turn green at all when active during
daylight hours.
You should never leave a captive lizard alone for any extended
length of time. They need fresh adequate water, daily adequate
humidity in their tank and fresh live food fed daily and only
as much as they will consume at one time.
If you know you are going to be away for more than a day you
need to make every effort to get a friend or a neighbor to
look in on your animal(s) daily to feed them and to check that
everything you've told them to check up on is excatly as you
explained to them it needs to be. I'm sorry to hear about your
Anole's death. Peace.
