how obvious is sheding?

ecb Jul 08, 2003 07:09 AM

As far as I can tell she has YET to shed. I have had her over a month. is it possible I missed it?
I saw a (VERY CUTE) water dragon shedding at the petstore, just swimming and wriggling in the water (actually seemed happy and playful) and the old skin was VERY different from the new, and I have seen nothing like this on Erowen, and I have seen NO patches of skin in the tank.

She most likely hasn't shed yet and it isn't time. Shedding in these guys is very evident. It takes time and goes in stages. The old skin does dull, though it may take a more familiar eye to see the difference especially in a relatively new acquisition. Unless you have one like one of my first guys. He had a number of retained sheds and when he dulled it looked greyish green. I thought he was ill! Yours might have extra skins on her which might make seeing the dulling easier but if not don't worry. You can't miss sheds. Especially head sheds. Keep her home nice and humid and she should be just fine.
I am not sure if it is the same for MHDs, because for some silly reason I haven't noted it in mine, but snakes shed once every 3 months on the average. If they are injured, powerfed or ill it may be more often but for the average it is 3 months. I would suspect that lizards are pretty much the same so you might have 2 more months to wait. I think probably more like a few weeks but if she does go a full 3 more months you may have cause for concern. Otherwise just relax and watch, like I said you really can't miss it.

Have a good day
