Heres some pictures of my cages, FINALLY! I finally got 'em cleaned and all so I took some pics. My chondro is in the top right and then colubrids in the other 3. Thanks Chris H. and everyone else who helped!

Looking good, Toon. What are the final dimensions, etc.?

How do you like the hinged doors vs. the sliding doors?

Very nice. I especially like seeing the recessed hinged doors. Gives it a nice finished appearance.
A little critique though...use a little more elbow grease on the final sanding, and coating.
That will give your work a nice furniture quality finish.
Again, this is a minor critique.Just a hint for your next project.
The cage looks great! Are the doors acrylic or glass?

Oh yeah, I know I should have resanded to get that white paint off, it's really bothering me. I just was to the point I was so sick of this stuff I didn't want to have to redo all those, so I figured i'd live with it, lol. I did the stupid thing of actually staining and putting one coat of poly over the front before i painted the inside, so I would have had to resand the front and restain and repoly.. too much work for me.

I had taped it off, but it seeped underneath. Then I was told the way around that is you just take a teaspoon and run along the edge of the masking tape and it seals it off a lot better.

The doors are 1/8" acrylic, the one on the top right is 1/4" glass.

Externally, the dimesions of each cage are 4' long x 2' tall x 2' deep. So all together it's about a 4x8 area up front. I'm in the midst of constructing some 16" high cabinets that will be underneath them... help me actually see the bottom ones a bit better. And give me room to throw crap.

I like the sliding doors better... however the hinged work just as well (and were a LOT cheaper to make!) I got the 1/8" plexi for all 6 swinging doors the same price that i paid for the 1/4" glass for the one cage.

Thanks.

>>I'm in the midst of constructing some 16" high cabinets that will be underneath them...

Good idea. You might even consider building a heavy-duty rack system for the cages to set on. Great for separating snakes out during feeding or cleaning and make for darn good storage as well.

>>I like the sliding doors better...

Me too. I'm always surprised to hear people say they like hinged doors better but to each their own.

For me, it also really makes that Chondro cage stand out. The front just looks so much cleaner. It's my favorite of all the cages you made.

Also, how did you end up cutting the FRP?

The only reason I like the sliding doors better really is because I didn't have to worry about mortising out the frames for the hinges, lol. I would like them a LOT better if I had taken the time to clean up the front.. which I probably will eventually get to.

I ended up cutting it with just a fine tooth blade on a table saw. It was kinda old and rusted, but worked perfectly fine. Then I ran the pieces over a jointer to trim off little bits if need be.
