Controversial subject on Bcc

Mark Damico May 16, 2003 10:27 AM

I've heard of certain discussions where certain people have questioned certain BCC because of dashes extending a longs ways down an animals tail.

Yesterday on classifieds, a vendor posted a suri that had those dashes and looked like they went down to about the vent. I got with that vendor and asked a few questions. That suri was imported by them 9 months ago from Paramimbo(spelling?)If an animal has tail dashes running down further than norm, can anyone really say that it must not be a Suri or should they question it?(I'm also aware that tail dashing does occur pretty frequently on peruvians)

I have a large collection of Surinames, only two of which are wild caught. Here's one of them. Kind of hard to tell here, but she has the "crescents" continuing down into the tail all the way to the vent. This is very common in light or pale Bcc, I think the melanin masks it in many darker Bcc. I have also noticed these crescents in the tails of my Stoltz French Guianas. On the other hand, I have noticed that frequently in Bci these crescents are much more defined in the tail. (Sometimes they are absent in Bci, but in those cases they are usually not well defined in the body saddles either.) It seems safe to say that, in general, there is less of a difference or transition between the body saddles and the "tail" blotches in Bci than there is in Bcc. It also seems that, in general, this exaggerated shift from the body saddles to "tail" blotches is more evident in the eastern Bcc than the western Bcc (ie Peruvians). Please note that I said "in general".

Both these animals are CBB02 from two different breeders. The two things both animals have in common is super light base color, and well defined dashes in their saddles that extend to their tail. My only comment to somebody calling these animals crosses is BLAH BLAH BLAH...you produce 10 + litters of Surinams and tell me how many look like the text book definition?

Thanks for replying. I own a couple of suris with the tail dashes or crescents as well that I'm very proud of. I had heard of some trash talking a while back on this subject and wanted to take the opportunity to get some input and opinions from regulars on the forum.
