Petland & Petco

LIMentality420 Mar 01, 2005 12:33 AM

I just bought a 5 inch female dalmation crested gecko at petland yesterday for 70 dollars. They have a stub tail fire female left. I think I might go get her too. I hope she gets along with my 4 inch male. I have her in a seperate tank for now. I bought the male at petco for 30 but my friend hooked me up with the price and I was told petco can't carry any female reptiles, but they do have baby cresteds about a inch and a half big, so you never know you might get a female. I'ma try to post pictures later...

That's ridiculous - petco carries both male and female herps, at all ages.

My firend is the manager at Petco and said they can't carry females because they are not allowed to breed reptiles in there factories. And obviously if they have a female and a male in the same enclosure they might breed. PITA sued petco for a couple hundred million a couple months ago because of there care of animals in there warehouses. My friend is a manager and I think she knows what she talking about kid..

I have also bought female cresteds via Petco. At the sizes that Petco carries which some are quite honestly hatchlings, proper sexing cant even be accomplished yet.

Well your friend is wrong. I bought lined day geckos from Petco and they have laid eggs and I have hatched out the babies.
Last time I checked male geckos don't lay eggs.

I've never heard of any rule about male and female reptiles at the Petco where I work. Those reptiles that are mature enough to sex, like leopard geckos, we do try to separate them to limit the possiblility of breeding, but it has happened. We recently found a couple of eggs in the anole enclosure and we've had leopard geckos lay eggs and had them hatch. Those of us that take the eggs and try to hatch them give the babys away instead of trying to sell them. Two of my female cresties came from petoc, so we do get both sexes there too. Just my input.

Both of the cresteds I purchased from Petco died within 2 months.

limentality420 Mar 13, 2005 10:35 AM

What were you feeding them ? How were housing them ? Where you handling them too much ? Cause if they make the first 2 weeks from when you bring em in your house they should be ok. I got this onew from Petco about 2 months ago....
