NEED SOME HELP FROM BRANDON!?!?!?

SHHAWKE Mar 01, 2005 07:11 AM

HEY AS I TOLD U BEFORE ON THE PHONE MY GIRLFRIEND IS IN EUROPE TRYING TO FIND ME SOME "NEW BLOOD" AND I'M HAPPY TO SAY THAT WERE UP TO 27... I WAS HOPING TO BE CLOSER TO 50 BUT I'LL TAKE WHAT I CAN GET... SHE WILL BE BACK ON THE 16TH, SO I SHOULD HAVE A FEW PICS FOR YA...

ANYWAY THE REASON I AM ASKING FOR HELP IS BECAUSE SHE HAS FOUND A FEMALE IN NORWAY... I DONT KNOW IF YOU KNOW MUCH ABOUT THE BREED FROM NORWAY BUT THE PAPERS AND A FEW PLACES ON THE NET CLAIM ALOT OF FIRST TIME ACCOMPLISHMENTS... BUT I AM A BIT EXCITED AND WORRIED ABOUT THIE FEMALE THAT SHE HAS FOUND... SHE WENT AND SAW IT AND THEN HAD IT TAKEN TO THE VET TO HAVE HER WEIGHED BECAUSE SHE WAS SO HUGE AND SHE TIPPED THE SCALE AT AROUND 6270 GRAMS... AND SHE IS ABOUT 8.5 FEET...........

I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF A GREEN TREE THIS LONG OR HEAVY BEFORE... THE BREEDER SAYS SHE IS A WAMENA... HE IS ONLY ASKING $1200 FOR HER BUT I WANTED TO GET YOUR ADVISE ON THIS DEAL BEFORE I DID IT... I AM GUESSING THAT SHE IS NOT YOUR AVERAGE SNAKE... HOWEVER I AM VARY TEMPTED TO GET HER JUST TO CHECK HER OUT... PLUS I THINK SHE WOULD BE A PRIZE BREEDER...

SO WHATS YOUR OPINION ON THIS??? WHAT WOULD U DO???

SHILOH

Let me get this straight. You sent your girlfriend to Europe (I'm assuming that you're in the US) to do the legwork in acquiring 50 GTPs? Ballpark math tells me that you are ready to spend between $25K and $75K US (or more) on these animals--not including your girlfriend's travel expenses and the expense of shipping these animals back. AND the expense of expanding your operation by as much as 50 animals plus offspring. And in the winter?

Most impressive. I would be very interested in seeing pictures of your operation.

That one GTP sounds like a monster. Would there be a market for such a large animal?

Good luck with your new-found brood!

WELL YOUR ON THE RIGHT TRACK...

I'M IN KANSAS... MY GIRLFRIEND IS FROM NORWAY... SHE WILL BE HOME FOR GOOD ON THE 16TH...

SO HER EXPENCES WERE ALREADY PLANNED, SO I FIGURED THEY BECAUSE SHE IS ALREADY THEIR SHE CAN EXTENT HER VACATION ANN GET ME SOME "NEW BLOOD"...

AS FAR AS THE SHIPPING... I COME FROM A WELL OFF FAMILY AND I WORK AT A NUCLEAR POWER PLANT...

MY UNCLE OWNS 75% OF THE SOUTHWEST AIRLINES... AND BECAUSE OF THIS HE KNOWS THE OTHER OWNERS OF THE OTHER AIRLINES... TO KEEP IT SHORT... THE SNAKES WILL BE TRANSPORTATED ON THE PLANE WITH MY GIRLFRIEND IN INSULATED "CAGES"... I AM IN A BIT OF A STAND STILL THOUGH... I LIVE 2 HOURS FROM THE AIRPORT... I GUESS I WILL HAVE TO GET A U-HAUL...

I HAVE ORDERED SOME CAGES FROM CAGES BY DESIGN.. THEY HAVE A CUSTOM PAGE TOO SO WENT THEIR AND TOLD THEM WHAT I WANTED...

ALL IN ALL I'M LOOKING AT ABOUT $65-$67...

I AM JUST WONDERING IF THIS FEMALE WOULD BE SOMETHING I SHOULD BUY OR NOT... SHE IS HUGE... I DONT KNOW IF I WOULD BE ABLE TO BREED HER... MY GF SAYS SHE IS VARY TAME...

PART OF ME WANTS TO GET HER BECAUSE OF HER SIZE... I HAVE BEEN LOOKING AROUND ONLINE AND THEY ARE ONLY SUPOSED TO GET 6FEET... AND SHE IS REALLY HEAVY TOO...

WHAT WOULD U DO???

THIS QUESTION IS UP FOR ANYONE.. WHY THINKS SHE IS A GOOD IDEA???

ALSO HAS ANYONE EVER HEARD OF ONE THIS BIG???

I AM THINKING THAT BECAUSE OF HER SIZE SHE WOULD BE ABLE TO LAY A FEW MORE EGGS THEN YOUR AVERAGE SNAKE... BUT I'M NOT AN EXPERT...

I NEED SUGGESTIONS... WHAT WOULD BE THE PROS AND CONS???

That is indeed a very large girl... my thought is that if the purpose is to try to add new blood to your breeding group that so far as all else appears to be normal I would be tempted to acquire this one also.

I do agree with Rich's statement about weight/reproductive issues though... and there is also the "age" question. It's possible this is quite an old girl and could be approaching her "end of days" and would not be a suitable breeder for age related reasons also.

However... if the cost is not too painful for your pocketbook, I'd be tempted to go ahead and buy her and find out if she'll make a good breeder or not when you get her.

No matter what, no animal can be guaranteed to reproduce so ANY purchase is always risky if that is the final goal and requirement.

i'm not really worried about the expence... she might be able to make a record book somewhere... i have been looking online to fine another one that big but i have had no luck... in face i havent found anything close...

i have read on one site that they live about 12 years and on another 25 years... does anyone on here have a guess??? i am not thinking that anyone in here has had their green tree more then 12 years, but all the same... i would like to know some guesses...

I'm pretty much a newbie to the chondro world, but to bring some chondro blood in with the size of that female would be pretty amazing. She must be quite a sight. Clint

SO I KINDA MESSED UP BECAUSE SHE HAS NO WAY OF SENDING ME PICS BECAUSE THE COMPUTER NEEDS THE PROGRAM FOR THE CAM..... SO I HAVE YET TO SEE A PIC OF HER... BUT MY GF SAYS SHE IS A BEAUTY...

It has been suggested that over weight female chondros tend to have reproductive isssues, many of which toss out slugs and exhibit fertilization issues.
