which is better?

hao Mar 01, 2005 08:09 AM

I'm getting corn snake. But I'm not sure which should i get. All of them are equally nice but i'm stuck on which to get:

1) Amel Corn
2) Candy Cane Corn
3) Ghost Corn
4) Normal Corn

If you were me, what will you get? which of the the above do you think looks the best?

I personally like candycanes and ghosts out of that list but it really depends on what you want. Good luck

I prefer *normal* corns--even though my one corn is amel. IMHO, you just can't improve on nature. But there's certainly nothing wrong with coming out with new morphs. It's all in the eye of the beholder. I saw her and I liked the look. After ensuring that she didn't have health issues and that she was eating well, I bought her.

I do like following some of the projects. Trying to bring out specific visual aspects of corns is a lot more interesting than just throwing two corns together to make more corns.

Its hard to pick just one I love em all. One thing I have noticed though. When I have people at my house or am doing a show, people are always attracted to my amel. Out of all my snakes I get more people oohing and awing over a twenty dollar snake. Something about the bright orange that attracts people.

But from a purely genetic consideration, the ghost corn will likely have the most genetic diversity (thatis, have more mutant genes with which to play!), and present the most immediate results from breeding trials.

That may or may not matter at all to you, but it is a consideration to take into account. Hope that helps a bit...

First of all...I betcha wind up with more than one real soon anyway. Second, if you really don't have a strong preference, then choose the individual animal that you like the best. By this I mean that you may not have a preference between those morphs, but if you attend a reptile show or go someplace else where you can see the snakes before purchasing, you may see a corn that, in your opinion, is JUST what you are looking for. Finally, I look for value out of my dollar. So, again, a dealer with nice, healthy, robust-looking animals at a good price would sway me. I always suggest finding out if there is a reptile show near you, as this is where you will find variety and value...or at least that has been my experience attending the Ohio Show. Duffy

I agree with Darin, if you are planning on future breeding, then the ghost would probably be my choice out of those you named. But, it really boils down to one and ONLY one thing. What are you going to best enjoy looking at and working with. It is you, really, that is going to be one on one with this animal so it would be best for you to choose what makes you the most happy.

My suggestion is look at pictures of babies of each or, if you can, go to a show so you can see some of each and choose the one that appeals to you out of them. There is so much variety between specimens of each type that one may not catch your attention but another of the same morph may make you unable to resist it.

Good luck.
