watering

Hi I have a six month old male veiled chameleon. Sometimes when I am spraying down the terrarium he open his mouth and hiss at me. I see the as an open shot to spray a little bit of water into his mouth to ensure he is getting the full source of water. I dont spray directly into his mouth and the pressure isnt very high at all and when i do this he licks the water and drinks it in his mouth. I was just wondering if this is alright. Thank YOu

If you don't spray it directly in his mouth (could aspirate) then it is fine. I do the same with Luna when she is gaping. I have a rodent dripper bottle and just drip a drop or two on her lower jaw, which prompts the drinking response. Like you, it is just to make sure she gets enough water.

I sent you a link on your free range post above and it includes info on humidity, too. I would think this would be the hardest part of a free range setup uinless you live in a warm humid part of the country - and don't use a/c! ;-/

i used to take care of a friends frilled dragons on holidays and weekends and they used to love it if you just sprayed all over their heads and they would drink it up.
kind of off topic, but i thought i'd say it anyway.......lol

Well, I have to admit - even though I said never spary in their face I have worked out a "system" with Luna so I can give her head a good soaking if she didn't make it into the shower (LOL!) I use hot water and my fine mister, stand over her cage (I use a stool - I'm not 6' tall!) where she can't see me and gently spray her back end and move toward the front until I am spraying directly into her eyes (whihc are shut tight now), nose and mouth. If she SEES me - forget it! She'll move away, but if she doesn't make the connection then she just loves it - ah...the chameleon psyche
