shed covered feet

newticus Mar 01, 2005 09:25 AM

I just got a baby leo from a reptile expo last weekend. It's feet are covered with old shed, and were like that when i got hit. I've soaked it, i've given it lots of water, i've tried pulling it off. Some of it's toes are dark red, and some of it just won't come off. I really don't want it to loose any toes, does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get off the last of the shed without hurting it.

Thanks

You need to keep soaking it,you can also rub a little castor oil on its toes to keep the skin moist between soakings.Don't try to pull the skin off,use a wet q-tip to gently rub the skin off.If some of the toes are red then it might be to late to save them, they will turn black and eventually fall off.I was recently given an adult leo who had the same problem,it took me a week of daily soaking to finally get the skin off and she still lost 3 toes but you would never notice. Also make sure you have a humid hide,it will help alot and prevent this from happening again.

Did you buy that leo at Hamburg?
If so I saw the leo, and you have your work cut out for you, he had a lot of shed on his feet.
Two layers maybe

I would also put some antibiotic cream on the red toes, to keep any infection from spreading.
