Tank bottom help

NLoom99 Jul 08, 2003 07:55 AM

Hello all,

I was hoping someone might be able to tell me what I can put on the bottom of my turtle tank.

We were given a baby Western Painted turtle from my mother, who found it behind her home(might I add no were near water???) by her water faucet. HE/she is the size of a quarter so I'm assuming it is a new hatchling. I finally found foods he will eat but I don't know know what to all put in the tank. I have the basking light and he has plenty of water but I don't know what kind of bottom to put in there. Will sand or dirt be ok or will it make the water really dirty?

Can anyone help me?

no dirt and sand will make it incredably dirty. Try river rocks. I use them in ponds to put on the tops of plants so the dirt doesn't go everywhere. Also this will not get stuck in your filter which u need btw.
