My new friend

razordance Mar 01, 2005 11:46 AM

Don't know if he'd use the term friend, although he does seem to be a little more mellow than most. (He's only threatened me once, just after I put him in the tank). I'm debating whether to earn my scars trying to tame him or just leave him alone. I am going to re-design his tank tonight, I'm going to cover the back and give him some plants. Isn't he a cute bugger? When I misted him yesterday I caught him sticking his tongue out both sides of his mouth and licking the water off his own eyes...

Anyway, this is Fang, and sorry about the crappy pic...

i dunno what it is about tokays. some of them seem to tame down pretty easy, and some are just jerks all of the time. i had a female for a few years that was mean to begin with, after awhile she was tame as can be. the male i had her with, named goliath ( because it was about 13 inches long) was a huge jerk and bit me everytime i took it out.
let it get used to you being around, and don't worry about scars, they don't cut you up too bad, after awhile it doesn't even bother you much and you won't even flinch when they bite you.
oh yeah, and as with anything that is very jumpy, be sure to remove it from it's cage in a way so it can't run away. i would always take mine out in the bathroom where there's no where to go until it tamed down.

Congrats on your new friend. Tokays do some interesting things. Mine like to hang upside down and watch me on the PC
