Possible Problem/ Should I worry?

becki71 Mar 01, 2005 12:55 PM

Hi!

Well I have been using indoor outdoor carpeting for the bottom of my Hermann torts pen and just recently decided to try sand/soil mix instead. The minute I put them back in there pen they starting eating the sand! They finally stopped and I haven't seen them eat it again. How much do they have to eat to cause a problem? What are the signs I should look for? I switched since my little one seemed to be flipping over a lot...since I have changed to this they haven't flipped over since! So far anyway! Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!!

It seems to become a problem if the are inactive, dehydrated or starving. A healthy tortoise will pass an occasional mouth full of dirt.

Thanks Ed!

It sounds like they should be okay then. They are definitly not starving...they are little pigs. And they are both very active and healthy. Thanks for the info!
