Veiled chameleon has white stuff coming out of nose

goobies4jc Mar 01, 2005 01:58 PM

We have a 3 month old veiled chameleon, female, and she always gets this white stuff come out of her nose...it does go away, but it comes back. She's not breathing weird, she's eating and pooping and active and does hiss sometimes, which I guess is normal. What could be wrong?

Veiled chameleons have nasal excretion glands to dispel excess salts and is similar to green iguana n.excretion glands. This evolutionary development is to maximize water retention in arid climates.

If your chameleons' eyes are sunken-in, there may be a dehydration problem. Always provide adequate water via dripping or misting for hydration.

How's your female?
My 1-yr old male has developed the same thing in the last 2 days. I'm trying to determine the cause/treatment/severity.

Ours is doing ok..she has had a very very bad case of MBD and the white stuff coming out of her nose is when she is dehydrated we found out. So when we do see it we make sure she is near her Big Dripper to grab some licks of calcium water we are giving her.
The white stuff too is just a natural way they cleanse, but it is mostly due to lack of water.
Hope yours is doing great!
