can young snakes be sexed acurately by the taper of the tail or do they need to be popped or probed?

this snake is about 16 inches long...what do you guys think male female or impossible to tell at this age with this method?

If I absolutely HAD to offer a semi-educated guess, I'd say "female," but the taper of the tail is simply not a good way to sex young snakes. Popping them is harmless and easy to do once someone has shown you how. Is there no one near you that you could ask for help?
