Guess The Snake's Gender

HerperHelmz Mar 01, 2005 05:05 PM

Sorry for the bad pics all, I'm trying to figure out the sex of my 04 amel cali king without actually popping it or probing it, it's too jumpy and nervous to begin with.

The snake's tail looks just like a male king's tail in a few books I have, so I'm assuming it's a male.

Look at the pics, and if you can, take a guess.

Due to abrupt drop-off at anal plate, and relatively slim and short tail, my initial guess without a better glimpse is that you have a Female.

Hard to tell by the pics. A ventral shot would be better of the tail. But by the last pic it looks like a male. the first two shots are shots of the side. cant tell from that angle.
If the last shot showed the whole tail it could be easier to tell the gender.....

I'll try and get another pic or two within the next few days. I'm pretty sure it's a male, I'll probably just go ahead and probe it once it sheds.

female.

(you said we should guess, so that's what that is. but it conforms to the "females taper abruptly at the vent" formula whereas males taper gradually past the vent because that area behind the vent is housing the hemipenes that aren't present in females.)
