eastern newts don't grow that big and they mostly live in the water. you might be able to by them in just fish is you have one near you. the one in near my house in delaware has it for six dollars. i don't know where you live but if you happen to live in delaware you could go to just fish. hope you find what you are looking for.

Unfortunatly most Eastern Newt young go through a terrestrial eft stage. A small completely aquatic life cycle animal easily avaialable for purchase....I can't think of any to be honest. THere is one subspecies of Easterns that usually skips the eft stage and remains always aquatic though.

Go to http://www.caudata.org and ask on the forums...someone there may be able to even help you find some for sale through private breeders. You can also read up their caresheet on http://www.caudate.org/caudatecentral/ so you know exactly what they would need.

Hope my opinions help,

Your best bet would be the easter red spotted newt, you can usually catch them after there Eft stage in pet shops and there relativly easy to find, I dident even buy my 2 they were living in my pond I live up in Nova Scotia canada so there plentiful in this range of there territory, im not sure where you live so I do not know if you'd be able to catch them there or even if so be able to keep them legally.
