PERLITE IS EVIL IN AN ADULT ANIMAL'S CAGE!!!

Take the plant out and shake the roots out of the potting mix. Then take use a an organic soil and gently pack it into the container and place the plant back in with it.

If your animal consumes any of that perlite, it would be one hell of an impaction.

Cheers

I've been told by several people that this is a big problem. I had no idea as it is not written in the caresheets.
Not to worry, I've already taken care of the problem. The plant is now sitting in organic soil with no perlite.

Thanks for the heads-up, I want to give these animals the best life that I can.

Its really something that doesn't need to be written in a paper because its more of a common sense thing.

Perlite and vermiculite both absorb all moisture around them. They are like hard sponges. So if eaten, either one will soak up all the moisture it can and impact itself anywhere along the digestive track until it is forcibly removed.

From one newbie to another...

You can't build a reputation while trashing everyone around you.

I didn't think I was trashing everyone around me. I'm sorry if I came off that way. I try my best to be straightforward. I don't like to post questions up if people are going to be mean.

I wasn't directing that statement at you. It was a statement of why to come to this forum, we don't yell at newbies here. sorry for the confusion.

We actually share our info here, for the most part.

cheers

Sorry for the misunderstanding.
I'm really glad that you guys treat everybody here well. I'll admit I was kind of nervous about coming onto a new board on a more permanent basis (as opposed to being only a lurker). Eve was the one who helped me get here. She's on the uromastyx forum too so it was nice that I had at least one person I'd recognize on this forum on my first day.

Just a quick update on my little guys: the male is still just "hanging around" but has "done his business" so he's doing well. My female has found a lovely hiding spot between two pieces of corkbark. She is out now, staring down the crickets in the food bowl. Man, if I was a cricket and had THAT staring at me, I'd be afraid to move too.
Both of them are a kind of brown and orange colour (with a few small green patches) and I'm trying to find some sticks the right colour so they can blend in with them. Do you have any suggestions? (it looks like Samael really enjoys her corkbark, I don't even see her right away)

Thanks
