About a year ago I saw 2 baby snakes at a pet store near me. I remember the owner telling me the snakes were from australia. The snake had orange and black stripes along is body. Anyone know what kind of snake this is?

No australian species fit that description....orange and black stripes....the only species that I can think of that is near here are baby Liasis boa....the Ringed Python from Northern PNG and they have bands not stripes.

Scott
Simoselaps bertholdi has orange and black bands but not stripes.
Cheers,
Johan.
Johan,
I would doubt that any Brachyaspis (Simoselaps is now restricted to a few species) would be legally held in captivity anywhere at present. And probably not in the pet trade as they are fossorial, have a restricted diet (reptile eggs) and are not common. Also they are banded not striped.....I previously had Western Tigers (Notechis scutatus occidentalis) that where orange and Black banded...I have seen Eastern Tigers (Notechis s. scutatus with similar markings and also juvenile Eastern Browns orange with fine black bands....however I am yet to see an Australian Species that has orange and black stripes.

Scott Eipper
Liasis Boa, thats it! Thanks scott, it appears the person that told me it was from australia was quite off. To bad it loses those colors as an adult =(.
First of all, reiterating what the others pointed out...Do you mean orange and black bands?
If so, it could have been a young Woma or a young Ringed Python (not from Oz, but close enough for the average Pet store employee!).

Maybe its orange with a black zig-zag pattern. This would be the Block-Headed Snake, Charlis brownis.

Firehouse Herps
I am teasing of course, but is a pic possible of the animal in question?
