Thinking of getting a frilled

chibicricket Mar 01, 2005 08:41 PM

I have about 20 years experience with reptiles, raised my 15 yr old iguana since he was a hatchling, and had random other reptiles. There are two types of lizards I would like to get in the future, a basilisk and a frilled dragon. Exactly how difficult is the care of a frilled compared to that of say an iguana? I've always thought they were the funniest little things.

Well, I have never had an iggy. but frillies are hardy lizards. They do eat a lot and they do need a big cage, but so do iggy.
the only diff. would be that frillies are meet eaters.
they are a lot of fun to watch. and to have one suddenly frill up at you can be thrilling.
with 20 years of experience you should get one.
if you do get one, get a CB!

My fiance has finally agreed to let me get more reptiles and I plan on filling up one of the empty rooms of our new house. My ig has free roam of the house and backyard, so caging him has never been a n issue.

Do frilleds live mostly off of pinkies, or can they eat other things?

I would not let your ig. go into the room that your frilled will live in, because frillies dont really like other larger lizards.

Pinkies are not the beast thing for a main diet. They are high in fat and do not have enough nutrition I use mill-worms (pre killed), crickets and anoles as a main diet.
