Getting real tired of noneating ball pythons..

cee4 Mar 01, 2005 08:57 PM

I have one male and one female and they are both problem feeders..Im getting to the point that I have seriously considered giving them away..My male has only eaten 3 small rats in the last 4 mnths and the female has only eaten 2..I realize they dont eat much in winter but I would have expected them to start eating again by now...I waste so many rats on them..
My female would probably eat if I gave her live but the male is terrified of live and will only eat at night pulling the rat into his hide(which he rarely leaves).
BTW the male is almost 3yo and the female is approx 2.
So what can I do to make them better feeders?

Thanx

The advice i can give you is to keep trying. Change the cage you keep them in make it smaller. But dont give up on them. I am going through the same thing with 2 males right now. Maybe we should switch. LOL Just dont stop they will eat when they are ready.

I took a 4ft vision cage and put a 1/4 inch plexiglass divider down the middle..So the cage area is 2ft by 2ft with a height of 16inches..3 hides for each on and a big water dish each..Temps are 88 hot, 78/76 cool..

I would up your temps, your hot side should be 95 and your low end should be 80 - 85. They won't eat if they don't have the heat to digest it.

All you can do is continue to offer them food and try to not get frustrated. My BP collection is torn. Half will eat whatever is put in front of them (they will even finish what the others refuse) and the other half refuses to eat. It can be frusrating and disheartening, especially when you see a marked lose of weight. Try varing your food. I have one BP that as a baby wouldn't eat anything but white mice. Might just be your guys are picky.
