Feeding Dry CGD/ GGD

genevieve Mar 01, 2005 10:54 PM

I feed all my Cresteds their CGD/ GGD dry in a dish. I have been doing it this way for almost a year now. Anyone have any good reasons why I shouldn't? Anyone else do it this way? They eat it right up, and I have almost zero waste as there is no hardened gecko food to scrape off the dishes in the morning.

I sold a baby to a nice old gent last year, and gave him a small bottle of the CGD with baby. I recently checked on him, and he'd had 3 adult cresteds he'd purchased from someone else last year that he'd only been feeding crix to. I told him that wasn't a balanced diet, comparable to feeding a kid hot dogs but nothing else, and convinced him to feed the CGD. When I visited him again a few weeks ago, he told me the adults wouldn't touch the CGD paste, but when he put it in dry, they cleaned it up! I told him I'd be afraid they'd choke on it since he doesn't provide a water dish, but apparently (so far)they are fine! I'd love Allan Repashy's input on this one, maybe I'll ask him on his forum...

Mine love the stuff! I see them at night down there cleaning out the dishes all the time, and like I said, no wasted, caked on, dried out diet in the morning.

Sometimes mine have water dishes, sometimes they don't. I have been starting my hatchlings straight on the powder for about six months now. I do give them the GGD, not CGD, but they are growing like little weeds. They are so used to the powdered diet that they wouldn't even eat some spare baby food I had lying around.

What is Allen's forum?

Thanks,

Genevieve

Allen's wesite forum, as beautifully designed by Anthony Caponetto, is http://www.forums.repashy.com/
Allen being Allen Repashy, who formulated the GGD and CGD among others. I too feed the babies, up to 1 year old, the GGD, but also tiny crix dusted with the GGD to reinforce the idea that that's what food tasted like.

Does anyone else do this? Is there any reason why this wouldn't work, or shouldn't be done?

Most of my gecko maintenance time is spent either mixing up CGD/GGD or cleaning out dry residue from dishes... if feeding it dry works, that would make gecko feeding a 30 second procedure.
