yellow litter size

mjf Mar 02, 2005 03:18 AM

I`m looking for an educated guess on yellow litter sizes. As they grow larger does litter size increase? Mine`s 7.5 feet. Also curious as to the largest yellow litter anyones heard of. And just one more.....largest female yellow weight wise......Thanks alot.

Litter size in boids is typically proportional to the body size of the female. As far as yellows, I have seen records for small females having as few as a dozen young while large females could easily have 30 to 40 young. The record size for a yellow is just short of 16 feet. They are not quite as heavy bodied as a green, and a female yellow of that size and in good condition would probably weigh around 100 pounds.

He had one female who produced about 30-40 one year and when he bred her again (I believe 2 years later) she produced I believe 10 babies and they are all very large. He was pretty disapointed to see his girl swell up to about football size and then have a few giant babies (around the size of good size green anaconda babaies). Just thought I would note this.

Thanks for your replies fellas. I don`t see why yellows aren`t more popular....hardy, and willing breeders.

The poop smells and they have a lot to give. Temperment can have a large range and with a large snake most people get a bit weary of extremely fast and powerfull anacondas.

Guess I`m lucky then, when I bought my male, he was tame from the start and cb I`m sure, the female a different story, it was obvious from the looks of the litter that they were farmed...and neglected for food to the day I got her but for having loose skin on her neck and underweight still strong, bit me 5 times in the store, had 2 teeth in my thumb but I held her til she settled down and realized I wasn`t a threat...Feeding aside she hasn`t struck at me since that day.

I was unaware for yellow anaconda farms. It was more likely just a wild caught. Plenty of them are great snakes but they have a terrible reputation and they are not super simple to work with being larger and messy.

Heh, not farmed in the literal sense, rather a gravid female captured and held until she gave birth...who knows her fate.

When I think of farmed I think of not only one gravid female, but masses of gravid females collected. I know this is common for animals like ball pythons but I have not heard of this with yellow anacondas.
