Lost my Boelens Today ...say day

NickRB Mar 02, 2005 06:38 AM

I lost my female Boelens Python this morning and not lost in the sence of the word as she escaped. I brought her to the vet and she was diagnosed with a bad case of worms and a baterial infection neither of which I know how she contracted. Her health declined very fast. Its a horrible day for me because she was my favorite but I wanted to share this information to see if anyone could tell my why she contracted these things or if anyone has exprienced this before.

Man, losing any animal sucks, but a boelens? Ouch! I feel for you.

Hey Nick, I feel your pain. Loosing an animal is always tough, but a Boelens is very difficult to deal with. This goes to show that even captive hatched or captive bred animals can not be dealt with lightly. There are always problems in dealing with this species. Intestinal parasites are always prevalent with Morelia boeleni. I don’t care if you say they are squeaky clean, they will be back, and if it’s not parasitic issues, then it’s bacterial or something else that seems to take over extremely fast. Illnesses in this species of python is not an area to overlook, and an animal that is sick either needs to be treated immediately, if not sooner, or can sadly perish in a matter of days. Remember, it is not your fault. This is an area where not many people have ventured, and for the time you have maintained your snake, I am sure you have learned a great deal about these amazing pythons.

“We who work with boelens are as rare as the animals themselves”

Kind regards

Truly sorry to hear that. Maybe someday we'll have these Boelens figured out better.
