bee pollen

uromagnus Mar 02, 2005 10:49 AM

what is the difference between granules and the pill that can be opened up and emptied out? isn't it the same thing in a diffent form? i was thinking that the pill could be emptied into a salt/pepper shaker and put on the food that way. this is only because i have been unable to find the granules.

Most reputable health food stores carry bee pollen in granular form.

It's cheaper to buy it bulk in granules than in pill form (who knew that the process to put it in pills costs so darn much?!)

You can buy bulk bee pollen at the health food stores. It will be located in the refrigerated section. I mix it in with the multi-colored finch food. Sometimes I sprinkle a bit on my uros salad or mixed veggies. I have seen him digging in the seed to find the yellow granules. Must taste good! I think I paid $6.00 for a 12OZ jar. It will last for months in the refrigerator.

Can somebody tell me about the bee pollen? I noticed a thread about it once before, but never heard what the benefit is.

Thanks,
Craig

Pollen is very good for them, plus it can help a fussy uro or one who's off feed to start eating again. If you want to use it to encourage them to eat, though, don't use it all the time - the magic wanes quickly. If you have a good eater, then you can use it whenever you want.

thanks for all the replies! i think i will keep the pill powder form to encourage feeding if need be on greens or veggies where he can not 'pick them out' and will have to eat the actual food also. will look for the granules again now that i know to go to the refrig section!

I bought the granules and crushed them up myself. If you don't mind using a little elbow-grease, it can save you a few bucks.

Just put a pile of granules in a small bowl or jar lid. They love them as a treat.
