Look up plastic suppliers in the phone book, or yahoo. They will advertise sheet plastics, rods, tubes, etc. Man do they have all kinds of stuff. Many of these suppliers do some manifacturing as well. FR

the spot we used was called Denver Plastics. search for a spot using "acrylic" and "lexan" keywords, not "plexiglass", you will probably get better results.

we went through a number of different configurations. some lids were split the long ways, and used a long piano hinge (really dumb, so many cracks). others split the short way, used larger gate type hinges, with o-rings under the washers and bolts. those have held up very well.

sometimes the basking half of the lid is predrilled and screwed into the edge of the trough, but currently nothing is attached, and we use two bungee cords on either end that come up and loop through a quarter inch hole in the lid to hold it down nice and tight, so you can still have access from either side, or pull the whole lid off for digging access.

the air circulation through the hinged area, and the small gap under the lid edge is more than enough ventilation...

maybe try some different templates out of double thick cardboard, just to see how the lids work, and what kind of access and basking setup it gives you...

You can get it at most hardware stores. Well, the thinner stuff anyway.
Also call up local glass suppliers (for windows and such). They usually carry sheet plexi of all kinds and thicknessess too.
