Hello, I used bed-a-beast for my horned frog and would like to if it's a good idea to put about 2-3 cm of this substrate onto the newspaper. Does anyone do this? I don't want my leo to be walking on hard surfaces all day =)

I don't know about the bed-a-beast but I can't stress enough to not put newspaper in with any animal. The inks that are in newspapers are toxic to animals and seeing as leopard geckos lick surfaces the inks from the newspaper could kill it.
If you look below, there is a message that claimsthe ink is harmless like food coloring. It probably is harmless because they put them with dogs in pet shops.
If you believe that then you'd probably believe anything because thats not true. I used to work for a vet and a vet will tell you not to put any animal on newspaper because most newspapers use ink thats toxic to animals. Its better to be safe than sorry.
I've heard the same thing. The reason why dogs normally don't get sick on paper is because they are bigger, and they don't normally lick the paper or their feet that the paper is on. Newspaper for any reptile, small animal, bird or whatever is bad. I had a lovebird die from cancer from most likely the newspaper we used on the bottom of her cage that she was constantly eating. We didn't know better, because that's what we had used for our parakeets too. Geckos taste their surroundings all the time, and they will lick the ink up. Also, taking care advice from pet stores is not very wise... Most of them are just in business to make money and will tell you anything just to make a sale.

Don't use the bed-a-beast for your leo,it won't bother him to walk on a hard surface. If you want, you can use reptile carpet or white paper towels. Please don't use newspaper, amphibians and reptiles are especially sensitive to the ink.
