EGGS ??

jlassiter Mar 02, 2005 08:57 PM

Has anyone on this forum had any snakes lay eggs yet?
I was reading on the other forum of two people already incubating eggs. One person really amazed me with a pic of an alterna with eggs already. He mentioned that they were breeding in December.
This all sounds weird to me and I would not have believed it if I did not see the picture there.
I don't expect any eggs until May at the earliest, but usually late June through August.
Has anyone else seen the posts I am referring to??

The earliest I ever had snakes HATCH was 22 April. That was when I used to take them out of brumation in Feb, now I wait until mid-March. Now most of my eggs are hatching in late July and into Aug/Sep. Much easier for me on the feeding of baby snakes. LOL

Plus it is easier for me to get a finicky feeder to feed when they hatch in Sept and I can put them into brumation soon after. Quite a few years ago I had pyro eggs hatch in early July with finicky feeders. That is way too long before brumation.

I have heard of people getting an early start, so they can sell early. But most of the Reptile Shows that I do as a vendor are in the fall. I prefer to NOT have to feed 100's of baby snakes for 2-3 months before I sell them.
