What a surprise..!

I've had an Asian Trinket ratsnake for a little while now, and so far she has been an incredibly tame, well behaved snake. Until last night...

I have no idea what prompted this - but out of nowhere she just started striking at me and trying to attack me through the glass of her enclosure! And I mean "attack". She wasn't striking defensively, and she wasn't just striking at me, she was actually following my movements - trying to get me! I couldn't help but laugh so hard (that little tiny thing acting so tough and all). I even put my hand up in front of the glass in one spot, but she gave it one quick look then turned back to me and resumed trying to strike at my face. I couldn't believe it - very smart girl, I'd say.

She has proper husbandry (warm/cool areas, water, hiding spots, climbing limbs, etc). And she has been eating normally. So I am at a complete loss as to what this must be. One thing to note is that I gathered up all my courage (LOL!) and reached in to pick her up to see just how 'crazy' she was. BUT - she wasn't. She was completely fine; calm and friendly, back to her old self in every way. Go figure?!

Have you ever seen this happen with any of your snakes, and why do you think she did this?

Here's the crazy girl (ready to strike):

Thanks,
- Mark

Yeah...it happened to me yesterday too. One of my CA mtn. kings started snapping at me through the glass of its cage. It was the first time ever. I think they sometimes just get charged up, ready to go, and there's nowhere to go (figuratively). Actually, I've been kinda power feeding this snake this winter trying to get some size on it because it had been too small for its age. It has gotten to expect food when it sees me and maybe got over excited.

Good luck with her. She's a good looking animal.
