Wondering what my new gecko did all night......

chibicricket Mar 03, 2005 08:48 AM

Well, Trixie seems to be settling in nicely. She ate yet again this morning after pigging out last night. Is there such thing as feeding too much? I woke up this morning and found that she stepped in her vitamin powder dish and there are little footprints all over the bottom of her tank. She also tore down a bunch of the plants i have in her tank. I also think I might have to take the background I have in the back down... It's a desert picture and she keeps trying to jump on the ledge in the picture. Or maybe they sell little ledges she can climb??

awwww . . . she sounds like such a healthy and active lil' lady! I am going crazy here at work, waiting for the Cheet to arrive. It is barely going to be 8 am so I think it will be a few more hours. I am sure she is exhausted after such a long trip!
Anyways, do you plan on breeding Trixie in the future? I wanted to get Cheeto a tang Bell albino boyfriend eventually but am not sure yet. If I wanted to breed them, I would have to invest in a rack unit and incubator, and potentially have many little mouths to feed. I am not sure if I can handle this, considering I just graduated from college last year and can barely feed myself! lol!
Anyways, I'll let you know when she gets here. She looks very similar to your Trixie.

P.S. They do sell ledges that attach to the side of your tank with Velcro. Check LLL Reptile or Reptile Depot. I think they might have some?

I actually just bought one of those Zoomed lizard hammock things for the corner of the tank, I'll look into the ledges.

Breeding is something my bf actually wants to do, I on the other hand have no experience with breeding anything besides ducks, but neither does he. He actually has never had any reptiles before, and I'm the herp-crazy chick, but he's been looking at what geckos sell for online, and that's why I think he mostly wants to breed them. That's not a good enough reason for me. It would be neat to see little babies hatch though. There is a lot involved with it too, from what I've been reading. And I don't really want anything bad to happen to any of my geckos if something happens to go wrong. Maybe in a few years or something. I have 20 yrs experience with herps, but I just got into leos a year ago, I think I need some more experience first.

Another thing I was wondering about, do leos need a yearly check up from the vet? I have to take my ig in for his soon, and I was going to make an appt for Trixie while I was there. The only thing is that my ig's appt costs like $200, mostly because he has a blood test done, and he needs about 3 people to hold him. I think that's just to check to see if he's getting the right nutrition he needs. I know leos can sometimes get parasites from the food they eat, but I breed my own mealies/crickets, so I don't think I need to worry about that. Does anyone on this forum take their leos for regular checkups?

Nicole - Can't wait to see your pics!

Hey!
As far as vet visits go, I only take my leos in once every other year for a check up. But that is only because I have had my girls for a while now. I would not stress over a vet visit too much, especially since your leos came from such a high quality breeder. My rec. is to get a fecal done and maybe an overall physical. My bet is that they are 100% healthy!

Ha ha ha that's funny. My gecko had a background that was jungle themed, the desert was on the other side and I use that for my bearded.

I don't know what your gecko did all night but I can tell you what mine did.

Before I went to sleep she climbed out onto her log and stood up on hind legs to try to get out of her enclosure.

Then sometime throughout the night I guess she figured it'd be fun to make noises, and wake me up, so she kept on jumping around her cage and she even stepped in her water dish with both front feet and left little water marks all over the front of her enclosure.
