Humidifier PVC tube setup

small_town36 Mar 03, 2005 08:51 AM

I just recently bought a humidifier and I am working on a chameleon setup so that I can keep him uncaged in my room. What I am wondering is how you set up the humidifier to the pvc tube to make it mist over top of the chameleon. Do you just place the tube over the point where the water humidity comes out of and piece the tubing together so that it goes overhead and put holes in the spots where you want it to shoot down from? Thanks for any information.

IF you search thru the last few weeks of posts for "humidifier" you can see several threads and some pix posted.

Be sure to get a humidifier with a round opening. I use Sunbeam model #699 (www.sunbeamhealth.com/products.asp?id=5. Take out the "spout" and set pvc pipe directly in it. The opening in this model accepts 2" pipe that you can get at home depot. I bought a straight length, elbow and another straight one. (be sure to measure first!).

I rinse it daily with hot water and clean with mild bleach and water solution (rinse well!) weekly to stave off any fungal or bacterial problems. Go to my setup page and you can see other pix. I think skater2337 as the dual setup that runs the whole length of cage top. Calrton runs a smaller pipe thru the hole in the cage and has drilled small holes so that the mist comes out along the length of pipe.

Hope this helps!

only difference for mine is i have a second elbow on the end of the horizontal bar to direct the mist down. kinda like a big inverted J

my cage is only abot 12" from the ceiling so the terminal elbow is perfect. I sometimes lean a piece of plexi-glas against the pipe to keep the mist a bit more concentrated, but the mist is so strong it goes right into the cage. Even here in dry NH I find this sort of setup to work great w/o having to pay for a pricey mister - so far!
