poisoned boa

maxcat Mar 03, 2005 02:11 PM

Need advice quickly. We have a young red tail boa. It
came in contact with flea and tick spray. began to convulse and continued to do so. We assumed it was dead do we did not intervene. It convulsed for many hours. This morning after
notifying my son of its death we found it alive. Poor condition,
we immediately warmed it and offered water. Is there any hope he
would recover or should we put it down. No lectures please, we
just want to do what's best for the snake.

This isn't meant in any way as a lecture, but why havn't you called a vet? I would think that if it's made it this long, and has survived through the night, there's atleast a chance of recovery..

I agree...vet asap.

Thank you for your response. We have now taken it to a vet. The
only reason we didn't go to a vet originally was because we
thought it was beyond a vet's care and we were going to a good
friend's funeral. The vet says it may recover. We have to wait
to see if it has liver damage. One good piece of good news was he
assured us we had done all that could have been done as there
is no medication other than valuum that would have been
done. It's now a wait and see situation. He is slowly improving.
